Customised productions and interior construction of the highest quality: A townhouse is reborn in new splendour

Delicate designs included in this project are individually curved glass cabinets and lightly coloured wood in an on-site stainless-steel kitchen. These newly arranged design classics and additions of traditional craftsmanship helped to transform the art nouveau townhouse into a modern architectural jewel.
Working with sensitivity and flair …
… he designer completed a project of over 300 m² of living space. He managed to regain the old splendour of the townhouse while at the same time gently guiding the interior towards a more modern appearance.
Due to the house’s year of construction Ulrich Weinkath had the interior walls finished with a traditional glazing technique. This is a complex procedure, which manages to achieve an elegant and natural looking texture.
The plaster stucco was also refurbished with great skill and new interior doors inspired by classic models were added. The already existing lighting was adapted to the new spatial circumstances. These slight adaptations skilfully set the scene for the art objects and for the on-site furniture.
The dining room and hallway display new, slender glass cabinets with stylish cutlery and the timeless armchairs by Giorgetti invite to linger. Above the round dining table, which was newly designed especially for this room, a pendant luminaire complements the harmonious ambience.

It all began with a small request:
At first the owner of the idyllically situated townhouse commissioned Ulrich Weinkath merely for the renovation of the kitchen. However, after working together and getting to know Ulrich Weinkath better, the client grew to trust the designers’ abilities. Therefore, tasking him with a project of larger extent: “In the end, we carefully redesigned the whole townhouse over a period of almost three years.”

The kitchen, the small beginning…
…of a huge project. It is located in the basement of the town house. After completely redesigning the walls and floors the designer completed the on-site Bulthaup-kitchen with individually manufactured glass cabinets: “The cabinet doors are rounded and created in a workshop specialising in glass bending. They were manually assembled according to our 3D prints.” Ulrich Weinkath also created the star-shaped, half-round maple counter. It bestows a softness on the room and is a well-thought-out contrast to the harsh stainless-steel materials and the polished granite tiles.
Cosy, but functional…
…is the client’s office. The specially designed cupboard in the corner of the office perfectly complements the existing desk made of solid maple and allows space for monitor, printer and the rest of the office equipment. When not in use, the technology can be hidden behind the elegant horizontal shuttered fronts made with maple veneer. The same materials and forms are found in the new sideboard, placed at half-height, acting as a counterpart to the shuttered fronts. The red récamière allows for relaxing breaks and together with the roman shades, it has a comfy and homelike effect on the room.
A virtuoso approach…
…regarding art and style elements, of many eras, was achieved by Ulrich Weinkath in the conference room. It is located directly next to the client’s office. The existing furniture and art objects were newly arranged. Through the natural wall colour, the subtle sisal carpet and the homely radiator covers a cohesive unit was achieved. An exclusively designed glass table was added centrally.
A library to relax and enjoy…
is located on the same level as the office and the conference room. The already existing furniture and art objects were complemented with additional fittings such as elegant bookshelves. Maple veneers and blind panels were used to finish the bookshelves. They were adapted to the room and the needs of the occupants with great expertise. The harmonious rounding in the upper area of the bookshelves maintains a distance to the stucco ceiling and the lower parts of the bookshelves are finished as drawers and allow space for storage. Luminaires by Metalarte were placed on the studs and bathe the area surrounded by bookshelves in a warm light. A comfortable grey sofa and a white Egg Chair allow for a snug reading corner. A new addition by Ulrich Weinkath is the round coffee table. Similar to the other rooms of the house a calming and homey atmosphere was created through the soft colour schemes of the wall, floors and radiator covers. A black grand piano was added for musical enjoyments, which transforms the library and the adjacent room into a concert hall.
A feeling of tranquility…
…is emitted from the library’s adjacent room, which is graced with a warming fireplace. It is framed by a newly designed wall panelling. Once again, the radiator is discreetly hidden in a wall niche. Also hidden is the television’s wiring through a classical Chinese paravent.
